Women in Iran Need Our Help. Here’s What You Can Do

Rallying together to bravely take the streets to the cry of “Women, Life, Freedom” over the past few months, Iranians are now in the essential and terrifying midst of overthrowing their corrupt government.

The Islamic Republic has ruled over Iran for 43 years with highly oppressive policies. The consequences of breaking their inhumane laws are brutal and potentially life-threatening. Tragically, this was the case for Mahsa Amini whose murder lead to the protests which have since become history’s first counter-revolution run by women.

Marking the protests as a “revolution” is a delicate turning point for the Iranian people and empowerment from around the globe is crucial right now. So in the name of “Women, Life, Freedom”... here are some ways you can help:

1. Continue talking about the issue

Iranians are being silenced by their government in many ways including prohibited internet access; their voice threatens their lives.

At a safe distance, it’s easy to become complacent, especially with everything coming through the news cycle. For those of us who can safely do so, staying informed and vocal will be really important to the new Iranian revolution.

Here are some great social media follows to stay informed and continue standing in solidarity with protesters in Iran

2. Attend a Protest in Your City

Cities across the world have held rallies to show support and demand action from leaders. There is power in numbers when it comes to taking a stand. Being present for a protest might have a bigger impact than you think!

This Instagram account does a great job sharing rallies to attend in cities around the US and worldwide.

3. Encourage Global Leaders to Get Involved

Politicians have the incentive to hear our concerns, meaning we have some agency in creating urgency for protecting human rights in Iran. If you can do one thing, signing a petition is a simple way to add your voice to the fight. Check out these:

The support for this Amnesty International Petition demanding the UN get involved is becoming unignorable. Get in on the action.

This change.org petition calls for Democratic leaders to hold the Islamic Republic accountable. You can also reach out to your Congressperson about the issue.

This petition lettered to leaders of G7 nations demands the explosion of Iranian diplomats and the release of all political prisoners.

4. Use Your Dollars

At the end of the day, our dollars hold political power. If you can, consider donating to the following organizations:
