Skincare Is Self-Care: Why You Should Invest In a Good Routine at Any Age

Spring is the season of renewal and rejuvenation. We can use that amazing energy to start something new or revitalize something that’s gone a bit stale. Something that I’m looking to liven up is my skincare routine. I was blessed by my momma’s good genes, and I never gave much thought to skincare. A basic cleanser and moisturizer routine did the trick for years. But, as luck would have it, I got older. Now I’m in my 30s and taking a different approach to skincare.

Skincare is self-care. It seems obvious, but it pays to care for your skin. Following a good skincare routine can produce a plethora of positive effects both physical and mental. You might be aware of the physical benefits: reduce wrinkles, visible pores, and blemishes, increase hydration, restore firmness, etc.

Remarkably, a good skincare routine can benefit your mental well-being too. Adding structure to your day with healthy routines promotes stability in your life. On top of that, every time you take the time to pamper yourself your brain releases “feel-good” chemicals. It’s partly because you’re accomplishing a small goal (hooray!). But more importantly, you’re sending a message to yourself that says, “I’m worth it.” When we hear that message over and over again it becomes fact. So, join me in reaffirming that age ain’t nothing but a number, and baby, we’re worth it!
